Patients who have been treated by both Kathy and me have all felt that they benefited from animal-assisted therapy.
Brutus and Kathy have done some amazing work. When I was hospitalized for plasma exchange to treat a rare neurological
disease, Brutus came to visit. I had a central venous catheter surgically implanted (a central line that lets large
amounts of fluid be taken in and out) and I was being hooked up to a plasma exchange machine that washes the blood
to remove certain antibodies. It was tiresome and a high anxiety time of my life. I really relaxed with the chance
to sit and talk and play with Brutus. I have now seen numerous good studies in the medical literature supporting
the effectiveness of animal-assisted therapy.
